Versopolis in Belgium!

Poetry Talk VERSOPOLIS & VERSOPOLIS@Felix Poetry Festival

Poetry Talk VERSOPOLIS

On May 28th, Poëziecentrum Ghent will again house Poetry Talk VERSOPOLIS. For the 5th time, four remarkable European poets are invited to represent their home country in Belgium. Kateryna Kalytko (Ukraine), Nurduran Duman (Turkey), Karen McCarthy Woolf (UK) and Linn Hansén (Sweden) will each offer an insight in their oeuvre. After this hearty welcome in Ghent, the poets will make their way to Antwerp for the VERSOPOLIS@Felix Poetry Festival.

During the Poetry Talk, the four poets will introduce their work by discussing its most urgent motifs and by reading one of their most characterising poems. A defence for poetry by the Polish-Belgian philosopher Alicja Gescinka (along with Antwerpen Boekenstad) will officially open the Poetry Talk VERSOPOLIS. Afterwards, there will be plenty of time to further reflect on the presented poetry during a reception in the presence of all poets and translators. Every visitor will receive a free set of 4 booklets as a matter of keepsake and to follow along with the debate. The debate itself will be held in English. The poems will be read in their original language for which translations in English and Dutch will be provided. Lastly, Alicja Gescinka’s defence will be held in Dutch, an English version will be made available as well.

Poetry Talk VERSOPOLIS starts at 7 PM at Poëziecentrum, Vrijdagmarkt 36,9000 Gent. Entrance is free, but a prior registration via events@poeziecentrum.be or 09 225 22 25 is required.
