Versopolis Poet Nyk De Vries at Literaturhaus in Kopenhagen

29 October 2021

It is with great pleasure that we welcome the Frisian author Nyk de Vries to LiteraturHaus. He is considered one of the greatest living poets in the Netherlands and opened, among others, the Rotterdam International Poetry Festival in 2021.

On 29 October, the audience will have the unique opportunity - through Nyk de Vries' poems - to get an insight into Dutch Literature. Nyk de Vries will read from his prose poems, which have been translated into Danish for the first time by Carsten René Nielsen. The reading in Dutch and Danish will be followed by a conversation between Nyk de Vries, Carsten René Nielsen and Thorkil Jacobsen (director of LiteraturHaus).
Join us for an evening of Dutch Poetry, listen to Nyk de Vries' poems and find out why "Things happen because they rhyme".

The event is funded by Versopolis and EU funds and supported by Ibsens Hotel Copenhagen.

Time: 29 October at 20:00 (doors open at 19:00)

About the author NYK DE VRIES
Nyk de Vries is a writer and musician, born in Noordbergum (1971), a small village in Frisia. He writes prose poems, both in Frisian and Dutch, and likes to work interdisciplinary. De Vries is known for his short stories of no more than a hundred words, often describing everyday situations that slip into the absurd. The unexpected twist is the trademark and the strength of Nyk de Vries' prose poems. His texts are highly observant without being written in a convoluted way; they are funny and thoughtful, forging unpredictable paths between everyday life and fiction. De Vries' third poetry collection 'De dingen gebeuren omdat ze rijmen' (Things happen because they rhyme) was published in 2011 and was nominated for the J.C. Bloem poetry prize.

About the translator CARSTEN RENÉ NIELSEN
Carsten René Nielsen debuted in 1989 and has since published a number of poetry collections, including the prose poems 'Cirkler' (Borgen, 1998), 'Husundersøgelser' (Borgen, 2008) and 'Enogfyrre ting' (Ekbátana, 2017). Has recently published a collection of poems for children, 'Drømmecykler og fodboldhunde' (Vild Maskine, 2019) and the poetry collection 'Miniaturer' (Ekbátana, 2021) with drawings by Mette Norrie. His books have been translated into several languages and published in the USA, among other places.
