International Ars Poetica Poetry Festival 2021: Particles of Life

10 – 19 November 2021

The nineteenth annual edition of the International Ars Poetica Poetry Festival enters the world, after a pandemic year, with the headline "Particles of life". Ars Poetica Festival 2021 invites us to the magical power of poetry, creativity, and artistic expression, to the authentic energy of sharing living art. On 10 – 14th of November 2021 in the premises of V-KLUB in SNP Square in Bratislava, two dozen world poets, performers and top concerts will be presented. On 15 – 19th of November 2021, several fresh film speciialties and numerous short films will be premiered in the Film section at Lumière Cinema.

Each year, Ars Poetica Festival, as the only event in Slovakia, presents internationally renowned artists not only of the world of written poetry but also creators of artistic performances. Among the fascinating performers, we can mention several festival guests who will honor us with their visit, such as: Glorjana Veber, Diana Ferrus, Asha Karami, Eirikur Norddahl, and Dani Orviz, a two-time winner of the European Poetry Slam competition. At each of the four poetry evenings, the audience can look forward to a unique experience. Slovak poetry will be represented by Mila Haugová, Martina Straková, Valerij Kupka, as well as young artists Taomi and Saul who can boast of having more than a million views of their original songs on YouTube. On Thursday, 11th of November 2021, the Libertatem Ensemble, a body of leading musicians, will present a special workshop and concert. The festival, as the only one in Slovakia, develops a unique tradition of world poetry evenings offering a multimedia experience based on word-image-sound fusion. Spectators can look forward to the rhythm and stream of images and sounds; inspiring, unique experience of poetry art. Performances of world poetry stars are enriched by original VJ sets produced by Zdeno Hlinka and emphatic recitations of Slovak translations of world by Lucia Hurajová and Ivan Šándor.

On 13th of November 2021, the evening of Versopolis European Poetry will take place, following meetings with publishers, featuring performances by Asha Karami of the Netherlands, Roland Orcsik of Hungary, Tom Schulz of Germany, and Carmen Camacho of Spain. All of the four poets have their booklets of trilingual poetry editions published by Ars Poetica, that are given to the audience for free.

Sound poetry is a globally unique artistic sphere. This year, its charm will be introduced at Ars Poetica by Violaine Lochu, an internationally renowned artist who has created several projects for the Pompidou Centre in Paris. She will present her site-specific performance at the V-Klub on Sunday, 14th of November 2021 at 3 PM.

However, the Ars Poetica Festival 2021 programme is not just evenings of world poetry. It brings three separate initiatives: in addition to the live art festival Ars Poetica 2021, there is the Ars Poetica Film section that takes place in the premises of the Lumiére Cinema under the dramaturgy of Martin Palúch, then the Ars Poetica Academy offering workshops and a special show of short poetic films of the ZEBRA Berlin festival, presented by its director Dr. Thomas Wohlfahrt, as well as the European Poetry Forum, a colloquium looking to map contemporary poetry scene, inspirations and inter-literary relations. Each of these platforms, supported by the Slovak Arts Council, has its own programme available on the festival website: arspoetica.sk
