He was born in İstanbul. His poems translated into English, German, Italian, Dutch, Croatian, Serbian, Swedish, Malayalam, Greek, Hungarian and Bulgarian. He is a member of editorial board to Çevrimdışı İstanbul Literature Magazine and Offline İstanbul International Poetry Festival.

Selahattin Yolgiden, one of the most intriguing poets in the new millennium, has a sincere voice; he combines a journey towards the inner self with symbolic elements. His rhythmic poems, which make use of alliteration and half-rhyme, are especially strong in their flowing sound. Witty aphorisms about love, eroticism, loneliness and death are expressed in a quite lyrical voice. His poetry may be considered an accomplished example of Turkish poetry's complex yet emotional vein.

whatever is a wolf howls / bir kurt neyi ulursa.

down in moonlight i went to the steppe                        like a wolf.
four shackles on four legs: pain, hate, doubt and lust.
two letters.      six stamps                                    four postal marks!
you were sleeping,                             your windows all fogged up
the moon was my father.                                       this i knew well.
with a dead titmouse on my chest                                 i stretched out by your side.                                  what you thought were lies you hoarded within you.                      ha ha.

i spoke with god      just the other day. that is why i howl                                                   when you ask me if i believe in                                                                          anything.

you were laughing.         ha ha.
were entering were leaving one another.                                still.
you were licking                     the salt of the skin of one another.
at night                                                     i was killing off that desire to kill welled up                                                                    inside me.

one day by the river i shed my hide.    it’s better like this.
and understood that everyone’s grows                 tire done day.
ah how lovely!                                                  relentlessly i howled and howled                                      whatever it is a wolf howls.

the goat -in love with an orange tree-

when the noon-bell tolls,
girls wash their cunts with salty water,
hang them out on a rope to dry and let them be kissed

the doctor holds an x-ray
there are two skeletons making love on it
“we forget we are only a set of bones”

we wash the cherries with the water drops
dribbling from your crotch, your body’s ebb and tide
on the bed, on that open sea, alas, a sail boat caught by a storm

once I had started everything that I finished
but I couldn’t finish many things that I have started:
yarn spinning, dreaming, making love…

I kissed your lips bestowed to me,
I finished the cherries on the plate.
